London and South East Regionals 2011.11.17
On the 13th of November, ten selected members of Alfa SKC took part in the first ever London and SE Regional Championship, which was held at Walton on Thames. There were over 300 contestants in total and for many of them it was their first time taking part in a competition of this scale. The championship kicked off with Kata for the orange, red and yellow belts. Children from as young as 6 years old performed their Heyan Shodan Kata’s to their best abilities and battled their way to win a medal. The competition progressed to higher belts with more complex and challenging Kata’s.
After the finals, the Kumite rounds began, also with the lower grades progressing on to more advanced levels. From three step sparring to free style, every fight was intense and tough. It was made a greater challenge by the fact that many of the competitors taking part had to face opponents from the England squad from the first round, who are much more experienced and considered the best of the best. Although this made some competitors work even harder and the fights were very close.
Eduard Valchev won a Gold medal in Kumite and a Silver in Kata. Caterina Botti also came back with a Gold medal in ladies Kumite.

Over all, all members of Alfa had an exciting day and performed extremely well. Many thanks to everyone who took part and supported us on the day. We are looking forward to the National Championships next July.
