Welcome to Alfa karate club


Welcome to the website for Alfa Shotokan Karate Club. We are dedicated to teaching traditional Shotokan Karate to the very highest standard. We are proud to be affiliated to Japan Karate Association England association. Club instructor has over fifteen years experience, is CRB checked, fully insured and holds a coaching licence. We are based in Silvertown,Newham,East London and Chafford Hundred,Thurrock in Essex.
Everyone is welcome from the age of six. Karate can be practised by children, women and men. We encourage beginners to the correct way and they will receive training relevant to their ability.
Just come along to your first FREE session and start enjoying the benefits of improved health, strength, stamina, flexibility, balance, co-ordination, concentration and self confidence... Alfa Shotokan Karate Club is a friendly club with good social activities.

Shotokan
Shotokan is the most widely practised style of karate in world.  Shotokan was founded by Gichin Funakoshi 
(1868-1957) in Tokyo in 1938.

Dojo Etiquete

Do rei (Bow) every time you enter or leave the dojo.
Shoes, socks or others forms of footwear are not permitted on the dojo floor.
Try not to be late for the class. If you are late, you should enter the dojo quietly and wait at the back of the class until you asked by instructor to join in.
Safely put away any jewellery before training.
Maintaining personal cleanliness is an act of consideration and respect for yourself and others. Keep your finger and toe nails short to avoid injury to others.
No food or drinks is permitted in the dojo during training.
Refrain from profanity or loud talking in the dojo
Say “OSS” upon receiving command or advice from instructor.
Say “OSS” when bowing to your partner in kumite.
Show common respect and courtesy to other dojo members.
Discard chewing gums and similar items before coming practice.
Never leave the dojo without permission.
